CSU and Adobe: Cultivating Digital Literacy Across the System

CSU and Adobe: Cultivating Digital Literacy Across the System
What does it mean to be successful in the 21st century and how do we prepare this next generation of future leaders for careers that don't even exist yet? CSU has recently partnered with Adobe to begin answering these essential questions and to ensure that students have access to relevant technology and are developing crucial skills, including critical thinking and digital literacy.

The CSU Office of the Chancellor and the Adobe Education team invite you to an engaging 1-day workshop on developing best practices and pedagogies around teaching digital literacy and incorporating technology in meaningful ways throughout the curriculum. Faculty members and Academic Technology leadership from throughout the system will present on their work and showcase student projects, including discussion around learning outcomes and rubrics.

Dr. Todd Taylor, Distinguished Professor and Director of the First-Year Writing Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will present on UNC’s successful approach to holistic student success and digital literacy integration. Now a few years into their partnership with Adobe, Professor Taylor will share lessons learned along the way at his public institution. In addition to his keynote presentation, he will also be leading discussions and hands-on sessions.

The event will take place on the CSU Fullerton campus in Pollak Library North, Room 130

Dr. Todd Taylor, UNC
This presentation explores the possibilities for digital literacy in potentially every class, every major, and every discipline across the curriculum. Professor Todd Taylor will describe how the interdisciplinary writing program that he directs at UNC-Chapel Hill serves as a threshold digital literacy experience for first-year students as they enter the university. The presentation shares examples of critical, analytic student work in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Professor Taylor will demonstrate how the "learning curve" can be flattened with a new generation of powerful digital literacy tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, so that instructors and students alike can spend more time on teaching and learning their courses and less time on the software. The presentation showcases online support materials, including the new e-textbook: Adobe Creative Cloud Across the Curriculum: A Guide for Students and Teachers, as well as assignment modules and sample student work.
